Deco Distraction

First, a short update on Emma's health for you who have shown interest and concern:
sadly last week her belly became very swollen, and yesterday we went to the vet, who drained
over a liter of fluids. We were hoping that this would make her feel more comfortable,
but instead she looks more miserable than ever. While I am stuck at home with a lot
of spare time, waiting for the inevitable, I have to say that my web activities are
a very welcome pastime. So here goes today's selection of eye candy.

I haven't been able to locate much info on V. Elizabeth Cadie, except that she illustrated children's books
during the 1920, and is best known for her stylized Art Deco illustrations for Volland.
I know, that's not much at all, so if any of my readers is able contribute more data, I'll be grateful.
In the meanwhile, you may enjoy her lovely, funny, elegant and very colorful creatures and patterns.

BonBon and BonBonette - the Story of Santa Claus's Younger Brother, 1924

The Cat Whose Whiskers Slipped and Other Stories, 1925

The Turtle Whose Snap Unfastened, 1927

Daddy Gander, 1928

This is supposed to be one of her most beautiful books,
but I couldn't find any decent reproductions of its pages on the web.
If I do, you'll be the first to know!

  2. Ah, I'm so sorry to hear Emma is still suffering. As Hussam wrote, my thoughts and prayers are with you too. Wow, Elizabeth Cadie's work is lovely. I too wish there was more information about her on the internet. I particularly love the queen bee illustrations. Their wings are amazing. Thank you.

  4. I still have a lot of her books, which my brilliant mother purchased in the mid 50's. The publisher,Wise, was way adhead
ahead of other children books. Not just the fabulous illustrators, but 3-color printing, story content, ect.

I am a painter & printmaker, & to this day these books are one of my strongest uses for inspiration. I will never let them go.

I will definitely let you know what I can find out about V. Elizabeth Cadie.
