When I started the Animalarium a little over four years ago, one of my first posts

was dedicated to Milton Glaser, who has been one of my heroes for a long long time.

As more of his works surface online, today I am even more impressed by the quality 

and variety of his immense artistic and graphic output. Having recently watched

the documentary Milton Glaser: to Inform and Delight and a number of his lectures and

 interviews, I am inspired to pay homage again to this giant of visual communication 

and overall gracious human being. The following images come from various 

online sources, but most of them were first featured on the website of the 

Milton Glaser Study Center and Archives.

Animal Follies

Seymour Chwast, Master & Dog Issue, 1972

In 1954 Seymour Chwast, Reynold Ruffins and Edward Sorel started to publish and send 

to advertising agencies the Push Pin Almanack to promote their skills and creative

perspective. Three years later, the Almanack evolved into Push Pin Monthly Graphic, 

an innovative publication that led to the birth of Push Pin Studios and lasted until 1980.

Its 86 themed issues showcased eclectic and groundbreaking work by the studio and 

a group of talented illustrators including Paul Davis, Isadore Seltzer, John Alcorn, 

James McMullan and Emanuel Schongut. Even though it was mainly a promotional 

venue, the magazine often tackled powerful social and political issues.
